Nashville Nibbles

For those of you just tuning in, my theme for the A to Z Challenge this year is things to see and do in Nashville. We are hoping to go there for our twentieth wedding anniversary this year, so I decided to use this blog challenge to do research for the trip. Today’s letter is N.

The National Underground is a music club in Nashville featuring live, authentic American-roots rock, pop, and country music. It is owned by Gavin DeGraw and Joey DeGraw, both recording artists. Popular musicians and other celebrities frequent this hotspot. The venue also has a charcoal grill that is said to produce the best burger in town. They have open mic night on Tuesdays that isn’t limited to country music. This particular venue has very mixed reviews by people who have been there, so it may be one that we can mark off of our list if we are short on time. How many clubs do we really need to go to in one vacation anyway?

The Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge, also known as the Natchez Trace Parkway Arches, is a concrete double-arch bridge near Nashville. It is the first segmentally constructed concrete arch bridge in the United States. The bridge has won many awards for its design, including a Presidential Award for Design Excellence in 1995 and an Award of Merit from the Federal Highway Administration in 1996. The Eleventh International Bridge Conference named it the single most outstanding achievement in the bridge industry for 1994. [Wikipedia]

I really want to see this.  There are two different designated viewing points to stop and take it all in. Some might find this kind of thing boring, but I will take advantage of both vantage points, wielding my camera and wide-angle lens.

You might not think that going to a flea market is vacation worthy, but the Nashville Flea Market is considered to be among the top ten flea markets in the country.  There are vendors from thirty states selling their wares. It is held at the Expo Center of the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and admission is free. It’s open every fourth weekend January through November, and the third weekend in December.

Now for place to eat—there is a place in Nashville where apparently everyone who is anyone eats at least once while in town. It’s called Noshville and it serves authentic New-York-style delicatessen food. The menu, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, is enormous and the restaurant gets rave reviews.

If the National Underground doesn’t make the vacation to-do list, it will be okay with me. But I hope that shopping at one of the nation’s biggest flea markets and taking pictures of a really cool bridge do. Since we have to eat, we might as well have a meal at Noshville and see what all the fuss is about.
